About our community
The Jewish Community of Madrid, titleholder of our School, was established in 1920 by a small number of families from diverse origins. The current Jewish population in Madrid is estimated at around 10,000 people. Jews form an integral part of the Madrid landscape and of the Spanish culture in general. Our institutional organization was established to ensure that future generations maintain close ties to our community, to their heritage and the land of Israel.
Our school history
What began as a small nursery school in 1965 has grown into a fully accredited Preschool, Elementary and Middle School and International Baccalaureate (IB)
Because of continuous growth in the Jewish population during the 1970s, our Community required greater organization and new school infrastructure needs arose. During this time the primary school was opened, the school moved to its current location in the prestigious suburb, La Moraleja (an area where many of the best private schools in the city have recently moved their campuses) and additional grades were added in purpose-built secondary building thanks to private donations.
In 2001 a new sports complex, the David Varsavsky Gymnasium, was donated to support the growing athletics program including basketball, football, volleyball, and martial arts, among others.
In 2005 a number of local families donated the Sefer Torah that is housed until today in the Rambam Synagogue which opened its doors to accommodate the growing number of families establishing their homes in the vicinity of the school.
In 2011 the school library underwent a major renovation, thanks to a private donation. Today our library forms an integral part of the school curriculum, housing an important collection in Spanish, English, Hebrew and French.
Final milestone: Grades 11 and 12 complete the cycle
At the end of 2010 a strategic decision was taken to extend our program to include grades 11 and 12 for 16-18 year olds.
In June 2013, we were delighted to witness the first 12th grade graduating class in the history of our school and in the history of Spain
In 2017 we added the International Baccalaureate Programme with excellent results.
What was a dream now became a reality and we thank all of those who made it possible.
